MVTC Grand Prix Invitational Summary

We had a nice turnout for our Grand Prix Invitational Event (our 1st in 3 years). For those who are not familiar with the Grand Prix Invitational format, it is an end of the year event meant to reward those who have participated in MVTC tournaments throughout the year and have earned at least 40 points.

We decided to open up the event prior to the deadline to anyone that wanted to play. We ended up with 22 participants and played a 5 round World Team Tennis format (1st to 5 games sets and 1st to 5 point tiebreaker). We ended up with some fun 5-4 sets (5-4 tiebreakers, with 1 point deciding the match).

The Men’s 1st place Winner was William Mannina with 24 points (almost perfect score), 2nd place was Solee Rudina with 23 points, 3rd place Gary Buzzell with 21 points. The Women’s 1st place winner was Catherine Puzon with 23 points, 2nd place winner was Mary Watanabe with 22 points, and 3rd place was Jill Nagahara-Evans with 15 points.

All players with 40 points from MVTC tournaments received a free gift (heart tape measure to check those droopy nets). 1st place winners won a set of new Wilson Ripspin string with free stringing from yours truly.

We had some delicious Krispy Kreme donuts in the morning and some chicken wings/sandwiches for lunch. We had a great time and it was a nice end to the season. Thank you all who participated.
