2015 Spring General Meeting Summary

Thanks to all of the MVTC members for making our 2015 Spring meeting an overwhelming success. I would especially like to thank our President Madan for the long hours he has invested into revitalizing this club.  He has had a very tenuous year of negotiating a new contract with the city, dealing with the touchy subject of junior team tennis insurance, refiling tax exempt status with the federal and state governments, sending out countless emails keeping board members informed and helping organize and participate in our tournaments and keeping a smile the whole time.  If he sounds super human, "Well, maybe he is." Thanks again, Madan. Being part of this board has given me a greater appreciation for all who volunteer.

The speakers for the evening were the Honorable Mayor of Mountain View, John McAlister. John actually came straight from the airport to join our event, still in his vacation attire. He did some delightful reminiscing of his days with the Club and gave the members more insight into the City’s financial status. Being a former member of the club he assured us that we would have a friend in City Hall.

The second speaker was USTA field representative Christine Samuels.
Christine graciously accepted to speak at late notice, when it was uncertain if John could make it in time. Christine is a gifted speaker who covered a wide variety of topics. She spoke to many USTA topics and her personal experiences and kept everyone very entertained. Thanks again, Christine, for coming on short notice.

Door prizes were donated by several generous donors – Chris Samuel provided three gift bags on behalf of USTA, John Togasaki donated a private lesson and a spring class, Marcus Cootsona donated several copies of his book – Occam’s racquet, Debbie Ryan donated caps from Bank of the West and Intel corporation donated some logo keychains and carry bags.

Thanks to Carol Tolen and Jo-Ann Smith for manning the desk, Jill Nagahara for the photographs and all the members who helped set up and clean up. Everyone enjoyed the great food catered by Armadillo Willys, drinks and excellent company.

With all the difficult work behind us we can now look forward to a fun filled year of tournament and team tennis. Forty plus is finishing up and the 18 plus season is upon us. Good luck to all and thanks again to all who volunteer, especially the board members.  You are what makes MVTC a great club !
