It was a beautiful April day when our friends from San Carlos Tennis Club paid us a visit at Rengstorff Park bringing many excellent tennis players and wrestling the Squirrel from our hands with a good game.
It was a tight match from beginning to end with ups and downs and a slight 2-game advantage for MVTC after the first 5 rounds only to finish in a resounding victory for SCTC in the final round.
A beautiful Spring day served as the perfect setting for the first tournament of the year for MVTC. The March Team Tennis had 49 players split into four teams – Red, White, Blue and Black, captained by Roy Molseed, Liz Chambers, Perry Lim and Larry Drenan. Team members wore their team colors and had a fun day of mens, womens and mixed doubles. The format gave opportunity for everyone to play with many partners against many other teams. It also gave those who sat out the opportunity to watch some good tennis and make new friends and renew old friendships.
We had a nice turnout for our Grand Prix Invitational Event (our 1st in 3 years). For those who are not familiar with the Grand Prix Invitational format, it is an end of the year event meant to reward those who have participated in MVTC tournaments throughout the year and have earned at least 40 points.
We had some great tennis at Rengstorff on a beautiful early Fall day. MVTC played the inagural Interclub vs San Carlos Tennis Club, also a city sponsored club like us. San Carlos were the better team today and won 212-172. Dave Perotti and Karen Morissette put on a good feast for the hungry players on a limited budget. Dave and Karen also created a wonderful Killer Squirrel trophy which we will use for this rivalry in the future. Look for it in the Rengstorff glass window soon. Thanks to Jeremy for a very well run tournament. It was a very good end to the season.
On a beautiful day for tennis, 41 players from five different clubs gathered at Rengstorff Park for a fun-filled team tennis event. Participants came from MVTC, Los Altos Tennis Club, Cupertino Tennis Club, Valley Church, and Sunnyvale, and were divided into eight teams. Each point in a round counted for a total of 96 points for each court per round. The morning teams fought down to the last round, with the Patriots edging out the Saints 308 to 303.
June Mixed Tournament – David Perotti
It was my pleasure to be the tournament director for the June mixed doubles tournament. We had a total of 38 players entered in two divisions. The weather was great, the pizza was plentiful, and there was a lot of fun, competitive tennis happening on all the courts.
Congratulations to all our participants in this weekend’s MVTC April 2014 Mixed Doubles Tournament. The weather was pleasant despite the wind—and we had a competitive, yet fun day of good sportsmanship and great tennis enhanced by terrific food!

Hi Everyone,
16 men participated in the Club Singles Championship tournament on the hot Saturday morning of June 29th. 6 players with USTA rating of 4.0 and two with 3.5 rating played in Division 1. 6 players with USTA rating of 3.5 and two with 3.0 rating played in Division II. The compass format was used to provide 3 rounds of play for everyone. Most players completed the 3 rounds in time to lunch on Bánh mì , Potato Salad and Green Salad. The rest completed the final round shortly after lunch. The East winners became the club singles champion for 2013.
