President’s message

Dear MVTC members,

It has been my great pleasure and privilege to lead this great club as your President for the last three years. It has been a wonderful three years, during which we achieved much together. With the support of all of you and a great set of volunteer Board members, we have transformed the Club into a vibrant entity with about 250 members. We are now incorporated in the State of California and registered with the IRS and the State of California as a 501(c) 7 nonprofit corporation and a USTA Community Tennis Association. This enables MVTC to avail of the benefits of CTA insurance rates. We also renewed our contract with the City of Mountain View.

We had our last tournament of the year with our Grand Prix Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Nov 12th. The Invitational Tournament is meant to reward players who have actively participated in MVTC tournaments throughout the year. 40 points were the requirement for entry, typically a semifinal showing or team tennis win.

Please arrive at 8:30 am for check-in, warm-up, and breakfast on Sat November 12 for our Grand Prix Invitational. We will try to start on time at 9 AM. Currently, we have 15 people so we have 5 rounds with 3 people sitting out per round. Sets will be World Team Tennis format/no let court/1st to 4 points/4-4- play 9 point tiebreaker 2-2-2-3. Best of 4 out of 5 rounds will count toward top 3 finishers in Men and Womens. Tiebreakers with same score will be determined by head to head and then games loss and coin flip.

MVTC 50th Anniversary Weekend – What a Blast!

Mountain View Tennis Club celebrated 50 years as a non-profit, all volunteer, community organization last month with a weekend of fun tennis and an evening of dinner and dancing. Organized by Perry Lim and Jeremy Chen, the Saturday & Sunday morning team tennis events were competitive and well attended. A big thank you to Peet's Coffee and Hobee's Restaurant, for providing the morning coffee and coffee cake both days. A real treat! And a very big thank you to Mike Rodgers, who volunteered his expert chef skills and barbecued up a wonderful tri tip lunch and delicious garden salads.

Dear MVTC Interclub players,

Thank you all for joining us for a fun Interclub match with San Carlos. Due to your efforts we won a tightly contested tournament vs San Carlos by a slim margin of 183 to 174 games and retained custody of our Killer Squirrel. The teams were evenly matched and the San Carlos team were good players and great sportspeople.

On Sept 17-18 the MVTC community celebrated 50 years of tennis through the decades.

We had the triumphant return of our singles tournament with 25 players. 16 Men and 9 Women in 4 divisions. The Mens draw had some last minute requests but we were unable to accommodate due to the limit of 8 players per division. Lesson here is to always register early to guarantee your spot. The weather was good, food tasty, and the tennis fun. We introduced a World Team Set to 5 games option to speed things along which some players appreciated.
